Rachel has been doing quite well with forgiving since she learned about it from the Comfort Lion. But when she sets out to try and forgive John Darling, her efforts go somewhat awry. Instead of forgiving Darling herself, she manages to alienate the affections classmate Ameka Okeke had held for him.
While she is talking to Ameka, Rachel glimpses something moving in the forest. That something turns out to be the woodwose. Using what wisdom she can glean from the work of her hero, librarian-adventurer “Daring” Northwest, she manages to draw the great yeti-like creature to the trap she laid out. But when it proves cleverer, and wiser, than she expected, the adventure takes an unexpected turn.
In order to figure out how Rachel might draw the attention of the woodwose, I contacted a Native American cop friend who knows about Sasquatches nigh-first-hand. If you have not read his article, “Arresting Bigfood or Our Elves Are Different,” I recommend it.
It is probably the most re-read article of any on the entire Superversive Inklings website.
I just read this (again) in the book!
