One of the hardest problems I had when I started the Books of Unexpected Enlightenment was: What age should Rachel be? This issue turned out to be extraordinarily difficult. To this day, some readers are not happy with the solution. Here are some of the issues that went into the decision:
Yeah, I am pretty sure CS Lewis never actually pins down the kids’ ages, because I know I always pictured Peter as, you know, “a couple years older than me” from age, maybe 7 to age 15.
Arthur Ransome is also pretty vague in the Swallows and Amazons stories.
But in a story about school you don’t have that luxury. Age defines place at the school. 13 seems reasonable to me.
